GENIUS HOUR
At PracticeWelcome back to Week 2 of my baseball journey and how to improve my baseball skills. This week we had three games to get the season started and a couple days off so I can practice and get better. Game 1 for this week we play on Tuesday at Alexander Central. This wasn't really a big game at all since they weren't in our conference but all the nerves were still there since it was the first game of the season. We had one day of practice on Monday to get ready for this game. At practice I worked on making sure I was fielding it the correct way and making sure all my throws were good. After we got some work in defense I started to hit. I was struggling at the beginning but I decided to figure it out near the end of the practice. After practice was over I headed home and started to hit on the tee just to make sure my swing was right before we played tomorrow. I forgot to stretch my arm with the j bands at practice so when I finished hitting I worked on my arm motion and arm strength TuesdayToday was game day and I prepared myself really well today. I worked on stretching out my body at school in weight training to make sure everything was feeling right. I did a bunch of leg strength things also in weight training to make sure everything was feeling right. We got to the game and it was game time. First at bat I had a really quality at bat and was seeing the ball really well but I sadly lined out to the shortstop. Our defense was really getting the job done and I could tell my fielding and throwing has gotten a little bit better. Coming up on the next at bat I got hit right in the side of my hip so it was a free base. Third at bat we had bases loaded with one out so I tried to poke something in play to score the run and I did just that even though I got out. We ended up winning this game 6-3 and had to get ready to play the next day. WednesdayToday we took on Carson on the home opener of the season. Coming off the big win the night before the boys had a lot of confidence in this game. I did my same thing pregame as I did the first game with stretching out my body and doing the j-bands. It was game-time. First at bat up I got a little dribbler hit that I out ran to first base. It wasn't my best effort but I had to battle with 2 strikes so I wouldn't get out. Second at bat coming up and I was ready to get another hit or get on. I fouled a couple off then the dude hit me right in the side again. Obviously not happy I didn't get hit I still reached base so it was better than nothing. After this inning I made a couple plays in the field to keep our team alive and in this game. Third at bat came up and first pitch again I got hit right in the back again. I guess i'm just a ball magnet and always get hit cause this is the third time I've got hit in two games this season.Third at bat came up and we were down three so I tried to get something going. First pitch he threw me I absolutely sat on it and destroyed it to the fence and got a 1 out double. I thought this would all get the team going but we only scored 1 run that inning and ending up making some bad errors which led us to lose this game.

Welcome to week 1 of my genius hour project. Welcome to the first of many more blogs I am going to be making on my project. For week one me and my baseball teammate Corbin are going to be working on a bunch of stuff for baseball and just getting better every way possible. For the first two days of the week me and Corbin got in contact to go up to a little hitting place at 601. When we first got there we started talking to each other then we started to get to work. First things first we started stretching out all our muscles in our legs in arms so we wouldn't pull anything or break anything. To do this we would need to use the j bands to increase arm strength and really stretch it out and also just a large area to stretch out your whole body.
After we got through the stretching process me and Corbin begin with speed and agility work. We got the ladder out which really helps us increase our foot work and just getting faster all around. This then led us to play around with a little game of tic-tac-toe which was us just messing around and having fun before we got into the workout. Once we got done with all our stretches we got down to business hitting. We each hit around 3 buckets each which would equal about 100-200 swings in the whole day. Our big focus for these two days of hitting was just to stay on time when the pitches were coming in and to also stay on top of the ball so we don't pop everything up. After about 30 minutes to an hour of hitting each other we would get down to the defense side of things. Corbin would roll me some ground-balls where I have to field them properly working on my footwork then make a good throw to him. This would work on me getting used to keeping my head down and get good reps for in game situations. As the week continued days 3-7 I did basically the same thing everyday. First I would start to stretch all my body out cause I don't wanna pull anything anytime soon. After this I would get about 100-150 swings on the tee a day. This would just work on me going over the motions and have it in my mind so when the game comes my swing will feel and look better. After I got finished with hitting I would work on my throwing and defense with my Dad outside. Mom would always have something for dinner ready after this so I get a little bite to eat then go back to work. I worked on my legs mostly in the little workout spot we have in my garage to improve my strength so I could hit the ball a lot farther. This is all for week 1, thanking everyone for taking the time to read this. |
